A sketch a day

7 days and 7 sketches. Any regular sketchers who've struggled after a break will know how it feels! Challenging myself to post a sketch a day was the only way to get back into it. I don't say this very often but -thank you facebook.

Cardigan Island Farm Park

I was recently commissioned by the Cardigan Island Farm Park to design a map of west Wales for their junior visitors! Here's a wee version. It was such a challenging project and I loved drawing all of the different landmarks. Thanks to Jo at the Farm Park http://www.cardiganisland.com/

I've been working on my freelance work today (three illustrations for a book) but I decided to use this image purely for my portfolio, mainly because it was a bit too dark for the book I'm working on. I haven't used indian ink for a couple of weeks so it's been good to get that pitch black on the paper again

Mock Up #1

I've been working on some mock-up's of newspaper articles for my portfolio. Here's the first one. It's demanded a bit of a break from the usual subject matter, and I've really enjoyed it! I think the aim is to be as clear and simple as possible when illustrating this kind of content, I'm perservering! Onto the next one..

Some press!!!

A huge thank you to WalesOnline for featuring my work at Oriel Myrddin!

Finished today, a piece of work for my self directed portfolio section

The brief for this self directed work is very simple and short. The narrative is this. Spying a single wild dog in a woodland, a lone figure pursues it deeper into the dense forest before the whole pack emerge.

Self Directed Work.

I've been busy getting on with the personal project again. This illustration was created digitally, by scanning in my drawings and then stitching them together to make a collage. Which saves me making a mess of my desk.! I'm in the middle of another and I'm going to try and finish it this weekend. A heads up...the woodland wolves will be multiplying...

Ultracomida

For the next 6 weeks you can find a selection of my illustrations from "The Mabinogion" on display at Ultracomida in Narberth. Established for ten years, they're the best delicatessen around for miles, stock the highest quality produce from Spain and to top it off they make a really good coffee!

Aside from this, it's so good to see my work shown in Narberth, the location and inspiration for many of the stories in "The Mabinogion".

2014. a bit new

It's a new year and I have some work to get on with and more time to devote to it. Imagine that...

Aside from my commissions, the last few weeks have been about entering work into competitions and preparing some new self promotion ideas.  By experimenting with new ideas for my work I have started developing character ideas for a story. It may or may not become "something" but either way I wake up to it every day and it's dead exciting! and it warms up that side of my brain for the other work too.
